SCHOOL HOLIDAY WORKSHOP

In this fun 1.5-hour workshop, teens will learn to draw realistic heads with graphite pencils. Led by artist Dion Hamill you'll explore facial proportions, shading, and highlights, leaving with a finished drawing and new skills to enhance your art.

MJAC Open Studios Day invites you to immerse yourself in the creative heart of Midland Junction Arts Centre (MJAC).

Browse the galleries and artist’s studios while discovering their stories, creative processes, and the work they have created while working in residence,

For those who have never been to MJAC before, it is also an opportunity to see the historic site that has been continuously occupied as a place of learning since 1895. You can wander through the vibrant venue and experience why this site has such as special place in the history and culture of the Swan region.

To complete the experience, there is also a chance to get your Christmas shopping done early with our new MJAC Shop being open for those eager to purchase one-of-a-kind pieces crafted by local artisans.

Always been interested in learning how to accurately draw a human head and test your skills on a live model?

MJAC is excited to present a one-day workshop where you are guided through the basics of classical human head drawing by experienced drawer, Nidas Arkusauskas. He will demonstrate a typical portrait rendering to establish a clearer understanding of the anatomy.

Nidas will dedicate time with each participant and share his insight and expertise, giving you the confidence to practice these skills further. This workshop is designed for both adults and teenagers with no prior drawing experience.

Includes a short lunch break. Tea/coffee and biscuits provided.

Learn to construct a still life drawing in this three week evening course with Peter Dailey. Working from a different still life arrangement each week, Peter will help you to strengthen your observational drawing skills, through exercises in composition, proportion, figure and field. Suitable for beginner to experienced artists looking to refresh their skills.

Peter is an experienced artist and lecturer, teaching various forms of drawing for over 20 years. Working across several mediums, his studio practice explores themes of machinery, religion and social consciousness.

Share your creative discoveries with a group of like-minded artists in our light-filled Painting & Drawing Studio with our social painting group, Paint & Draw. Work independently, either bringing along your latest project or draw inspiration from the provided still life props, mannequins and reference images.

Easels, donkeys, furniture and boards are provided. BYO supports, paper and other consumable materials. This is an untutored drop in session, no bookings required and newcomers always welcome.
