Curious creatures in and around our waterways

Discover the tiny invertebrates living in our waterways and how birds and other creatures depend on them. Explore the visual wonders of aquatic invertebrates under microscopes and follow your curiosity by using nature journaling techniques. You can also have fun pretending to be a bird with different beak shapes, scouting for food in the wetlands.

Immerse yourself in the captivating musical vibes of Ali Banks at the MJAC 2024 Open Day. Let the soothing melodies of Ali's guitar transport you as you explore a vibrant array of engaging free activities and the stunning artworks of Building Fabric and Interior exhibitions.

Artist Bio:

A former post graduate student at The Royal College of Music, Ali Banks is a diverse and masterful guitarist in the Classical, Contemporary and Blues genres, he has toured the world as a musician. Ali has lectured at WAAPA and UWA and has lived experience, struggling with mental health. He believes in the benefits of music as therapy and connection.

Based in the Perth Hills, Ali brings together his passion for music and well-being in a series of community workshops at MJAC, running Thursday evenings 6:30-8:30pm commencing late November. These workshops, aptly named Guitar Guys (and open to all people over 18 years), offers the opportunity for adults to get together with a common interest in acoustic guitar, and create a sense of caring and community.

Join 2024 MJAC Artist in Residence, Yasamin Khadembashi for a FREE flower making workshop and add your creation to our community garden installation. This activity takes around half an hour and is appropriate for all ages 5+.

This event invites you to explore your own cultural heritage and history, through creating your unique flower and contributing to the collective installation, you can discover a sense of identity, empowerment and community through shared experiences and the universal symbolism of the garden.

Drop in for a woodfired scone with Quandong jam and immerse yourself in this multi-sensory arts and cultural experience.

From 30 November, local artist Mollie Edgecombe will be in residence at MJAC exhibiting a range of artworks including portraiture, landscapes and signwriting created over a 60-year period.

Join Mollie as she shares her artistic journey, stories about growing up on her family vineyard, Edgecombe Brothers, in Swan Valley, and her continued passion for environmental advocacy, particularly in preserving the natural environment and unique character of Swan Valley.
