Letterpress & Bookbinding with Ann Ong and Phoebe Todd-Parrish

  • Midland Junction Arts Centre 276 Great Eastern Highway Midland Australia (map)

Typeset, print and stitch your own series of notebooks in this collaborative letterpress and bookbinding workshop with Ann Ong and Phoebe Todd-Parrish.

Part 1 at Bright Press (formerly Whiteman Park Print Shop) will introduce the basics of letterpress, where participants will learn to hand-typeset book covers and pages for a collaborative book project.

In part 2 of the workshop at MJAC, learn three different methods of book binding to assemble your notebooks: Japanese stab stitching, pamphlet stitch, and concertina binding. Students will create their very notebooks with personalised covers and also create a collaborative concertina-bound album of the quotes printed by the class in part 1.

Participants need only to bring along a meaningful/motivational quote or one-liner to print into the workshop’s collaborative book. Finished books may be exhibited in the Made Here By Hand community exhibition in November.
