Learn the traditional Japanese hand building technique of Kurinuki with Shaping Space | Holding Space artist Deanne Jecks in this two-part workshop. Kurinuki is a unique subtractive method that involves carving, hollowing and shaping from a solid block of clay, resulting in beautiful organic vessels. In part one you’ll create a couple of small vessels ready to be glazed in part two.
Deanne Jecks is a ceramic artist practising since 2017 after an inspiring visit to Japan. Deanne also studies Ikebana (the Japanese art of flower arrangement) and Kintsugi (the Japanese art of repairing broken ceramics). She creates sculptural pieces using a variety of techniques, manipulating forms to create interest, while leaving space for a considered floral arrangement.
