Explore methods of expressive sketching in this two week workshop with Ryan Ahern. You’ll learn to draw the human form with simple, gestural marks in charcoal, working from a life model and dramatic sets of light. Ryan will explain his approach to artistic elements of line, form and proportion, coaching you to develop a loose and painterly style and a sense of expression that is not stifled. Suitable for beginners and artists looking to refresh their knowledge. This course is Part 1 and Ryan’s latest figurative series, with Part 2: Expressive Painting progressing to the use of oil paint.
Ryan is a West Australian figurative painter, life drawing instructor and former Artist-in-Residence at the Midland Junction Arts Centre. His work is styled on 20th century impressionism and subdued realism and can be found in a variety of private collections and in public exhibitions.
